Haircare Consistency is Key

How to Build a Successful Hair Care Routine

Hey everyone it’s your girl Marie, at The Salon, L.L.C.!

Today I want to talk to you about how to build a successful hair care routine.

The secret is to be consistent, but how do you do that given all that goes on with everyday life?

That’s what this blog is all about.

First, let's talk about the problems that being inconsistent with you hair care can cause .

  • Flat out, it can lead to a lot of negative effects and damage to the hair.
  • Without a regular routine, hair becomes dry, brittle, and prone to breakage.
  • It can also lead to oily or a flaky scalp, dandruff, and split ends.

Inconsistent use of hair care products or using the wrong products can cause more harm and make it more challenging for you to achieve healthy, lustrous hair. Which I hope is your goal.

Therefore, developing a simple consistent hair care routine is essential for maintaining healthy and beautiful hair.

Here's an example of a simple hair care routine:

  • Shampoo: Start by wetting your hair thoroughly with warm water. Apply a quarter-sized amount of shampoo to your scalp and massage it using your fingertips, working your way down to the ends. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.  I recommend Ouidad products for shapoos and conditioners for all hair types, but especially curly hair.
  • Condition: Apply a generous amount of conditioner to your hair, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends. Use a wide-tooth comb to detangle your hair gently. Leave the conditioner on for 3-5 minutes before rinsing thoroughly with cool water.
  • Mask or treatment (optional): Use a hair mask or treatment once a week or as needed to nourish and repair your hair. Apply the mask or treatment to damp hair, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends. Leave it on for the recommended time before rinsing thoroughly with cool water.
  • Towel dry: Gently pat your hair dry with a soft towel, or a 100% cotton white t-shirt to remove excess water. Avoid rubbing your hair to vigorously, which can cause breakage.
  • Apply leave-in conditioner or serum: Apply a dime-sized amount of leave-in conditioner or serum to your hair, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends. These products help to protect your hair from damage and keep it moisturized.
  • Style: Style your hair as desired using your preferred styling tools and products. If you use heat styling tools, be sure to use a heat protectant spray to minimize damage.

Tips for staying consistent:

Here are seven practical tips for staying consistent with hair care:

  1. Make a schedule: Create a hair care routine and stick to it first for a week, two weeks and then a month.  Then you’ll have a habit in place.  Make a schedule for your hair care routine, make it no longer than 15 minutes to help build the habit.  Using reminders or setting a specific time alarm each day or week helps a lot!  Set aside specific days and times for your hair care routine. For example, if you wash your hair twice a week, schedule those days and times on your calendar or planner to help you stay on track.
  2. Keep products visible: Keep your hair care products in plain sight, so you're reminded to use them regularly. You can keep them on a shelf or in a basket on your bathroom counter or dresser.
  3. Track progress: Take photos of your hair periodically to track your progress. Seeing the improvements in your hair can motivate you to stay consistent with your hair care routine.
  4. Keep it simple: Choose a hair care routine that's simple and easy to maintain. If your routine is too complicated, you may be less likely to stick with it.
  5. Seek support: Ask friends, family members and of course your stylist to hold you accountable for sticking to your hair care routine. They can provide encouragement and help keep you on track.
  6. Plan ahead: If you know you have a busy week ahead, plan your hair care routine accordingly. For example, if you won't have time to wash your hair on your usual day, plan to do it on a different day.
  7. Be patient: Consistency is key when it comes to hair care, but it takes time to see results. Be patient and keep up with your routine, and you'll eventually see healthier, more beautiful hair.
  8. Consider a salon membership:  Our monthly memberships will save you time and money.  They all come with a two week refresh so you will always Have Good Hair, so you get noticed.

Be encouraged it takes time and patience to see results, but consistency will pay big benefits.

Love ya, and as always have a great day on purpose!
